What it is

Focused attention, not stage tricks.

Hypnosis is a state of absorbed, relaxed attention, similar to one you drift near every day in the moments before sleep or while deep in a book. In that state, the automatic layer of the mind becomes easier to work with directly: the layer where habits, cravings, anxious responses, and old protective reflexes actually live.

You stay aware and in control throughout. Nothing is done to you; we work together, and you'll usually leave with self-hypnosis skills you can use on your own.

Often used for

Quitting smoking or vaping

Anxiety & worry

Weight & eating habits

Confidence & motivation

Self-sabotage & inner blocks

Stress & sleep

Specific fears: driving, flying, heights & bridges

Public speaking & performance anxiety →

Sessions typically run 60–90 minutes, usually as a short series of three or more, in person or virtually.

Anxiety and sleep are often where hypnotherapy and psychotherapy overlap most. If you look composed on the outside but feel internally braced and have trouble settling at night, read more about high-functioning anxiety therapy →

Experience you can lean on

This isn't a side interest. It's where I started.

I began studying hypnosis as a teenager and have been practicing for over twenty years. I've conducted more than 6,200 hours of hypnosis and coaching sessions, including hundreds of smoking cessation and weight management cases, with clients who quit decades-long habits and others who lost significant weight and kept it off. I've helped people work with anxiety, pain, bruxism, stress, confidence, and deeply ingrained automatic responses of all kinds.

I'm a certified hypnotist and hypnosis instructor. I trained in Humanistic Neuro-Linguistic Psychology under John Overdurf, completed and assisted in Core Transformation trainings with Tamara Andreas, studied advanced age regression hypnotherapy, and became a certified trainer who has taught over a hundred practitioners. I presented at the National Guild of Hypnotists conference for several consecutive years and was invited to present at the National Institutes of Health on stress reduction, self-hypnosis, and pain management. I later returned to school for my M.Ed. in Counseling at George Mason University, not to leave this work behind, but to bring clinical depth and a licensed therapeutic relationship to what I was already doing.

From hypnotherapy clients

"I was amazed and blown away by how much time he spent talking to me, trying to get to the bottom of the problem before hypnotizing me. The dialogue with him was so eye-opening that I learned things about myself I didn't know or understand before."

D.M.: Smoking, bruxism & stress

"With only 3 sessions I can see and feel the positive difference. His technique and calm voice were an excellent combination to help me achieve my goals."

F.B.

"After 4 months, I have not smoked at all. It is like there is some sort of switch that has been flipped since my first session."

E.G.: Smoking cessation

"My hypnotherapy experience with Taylor Sherman is absolutely remarkable. These sessions alone have had an astounding effect on my mental health and well-being. He's extraordinarily talented, intuitive, compassionate, nurturing, and I feel completely at ease and comfortable with him."

J.S.

"I have passed on your contact information to family members and friends. I hope they will seek you out to obtain the same assistance in cracking supposed unbeatable habits in a single session."
